brake failure light intermittently comes on and off while driving???? 200 82

my car has developed a new problem which is today the brake failure light came on and off a few times while driving. the brakes feel fine other than i believe i have a bad right rear caliper, but this would not cause the light to come on would it?? what does this sensor detect? thanks will
