Beautiful Day for a drive 700 1983

I love my Volvos - they never cease to please and amaze me.

Today I put the jumper cables to my 83' 760 GLE (Turbo Diesel). It hadn't been started since late July of last year. Let the thing charge for about a minute, hit the glow plugs and then the starter - popped right over! ... and continued to purr like a kitten - oh it sounded sweet!

Hopped in and took it for a spin around the country roads...after a quarter mile of "blowing out the carbon" it settled down to that classic stiff Volvo ride powered by that wonderful diesel. I had forgotten how quick the car was in spite of the diesel, especially when the Turbo is spooled up.

Was similiarly suprised when I rolled the 84' 760 diesel out of storage last month. Again, put the cables to it and it came to life after sitting idle for more than a year.

I would like to thank those who post in this forum. I have been trying to decide what to do with these two beloved, but differently hobbled bricks. The most logical option is to swap the transmission out of my 83' into the 84' and then dismantle the 83' for parts. However, I had assumed it would be a massive and complicated undertaking to convert an automatic to a manual, but with the help and encouragement of several postings on the subject, I assessed the job, and am confident I can do it with little difficulty.

Thanks!

BTW - I know diesels get a bad wrap, but if you could hear and drive the two old beautes of engines in my cars, you may change your mind...
