We recently bought a 1989 Volvo 740 GL wagon. It needed and engine overhaul so we didn't have much time to find out how the seats were. Considering the fact that all of our previous Volvos had great seats I was disappointed to find that the seats in the 740 are far from comfortable.
I have taken them apart and added some extra material to the seat and back in a effort to make up for some seat "wear". (The car has 215,000 miles.) This seems to help some but on a short day trip it was more than evident that this wasn't a long-term fix.
Some seats we kept when we finally scrapped an '82 240 will not fit so we are looking to replace the seats with something else.
I am 6"4" and about 260 lbs. Since a back injury a few years ago, comfortable seating became a requirement. Because of my height, the hollow formed in the seat back above the lumbar support and the shape of the padding around the sides and the top of the seat back, forces me to sit in a hunched over position. Not got for the old lumbago!
Has anyone had a similar experience? Does anyone out there know who the seat supplier for Volvo is? Maybe we could contact them. I'm looking for any comments, we want to keep the car.
