Why it do that? 200 1976

Hi- my question for today is about my 1976 264 GL. The otherday I was trying to get it running and the fuel pump wasn't running. I tried smacking it a couple times as that felt good and made me think that I was doing something worth while. The next step was tpo check the fuel pump relays and that led me to changing them both as one of them rattled and the other for good measure. Now when I try to start it when the key when gets to the on position it starts to crank and it starts and then when I turn the key off it continue to crank and I can only stop it by taking the terminal off of the battery. This was just over night that this new problem started. Why it do that? How would I fix it? I already tried wacking it as this used to fix my Subaru, no fix. I switched out the electrical part of the ignition switch out with a known working one and no dice? Thanx in advane for thinking of a fix for me. Later-GW
