New Struts and shocks 200 1992

Hello,

I just got a new set of struts and shocks, Boge automatics, for the wife mobile. The only thing is, they have no return when you compress them. Is this how they should act? Or am I missing something. Also, how much of a pain is the strut insert replacement? Last time I did this on my 744, I decided to pay someone, but really don't want to do that this time. Should I be afraid?
