should she stay or should she go? 900 92

I have a 92 960 wagon with about 100k miles. It's a beautiful car. I've had it for 2 years with very little repair expense. It appears to have been well cared for and have been a relatively trouble-free car up to this point. However, now the transmission is failing, the steering rack needs to be replaced, the air bag sensor needs to be replaced and I have a slow coolant leak. Probably about $6k in repair costs.

My Volvo mechanic is wonderfully obsessed with Volvos, but he hates the extra cylinders and valves on my car. He has recommended that I sell the car and buy an older, simpler model - mostly because he feels that the inline 6 with 24 valves may be unreliable for the long haul. I am hesitant, as we looked for over a year to find this car, and I'm wondering if his bias about the engine is valid.

I'm also wondering if there is any reasonable alternative to the $2,000 price tag for replacing the air bag sensor.
