The last time I changed points was 15years ago. I use to have a switch that I bought from Canadian tire that I could hook up to the engine and make it crank over by simply flipping the switch. I can't rememeber how it hooked up but I could turn over the engine while watching the points open and close and stop it at the perfect spot to adjust the gap - Handy. Well I've lost the switch. Does anybody know of a better way to do this or should I just go out and find (make) another one? If I make one what do I hook it up to?
Also I have recently acquired a dwell meter. Is it possible to hook the dwell meter up and adjust the gap while the engine is being cranked over and basically use the dwell meter reading to determine when the correct gap has been reached? Seems to me that I did this once before on an old Volkeswagon, but maybe I was using a fancier device then the handheld dwell meter I now have.
Appreciate any advice regarding this operation. I always hated setting that gap but I want to save $ by doing it myself.
