Flame Trap. The one under the intake manifold. 200 1983

Wife's car has developed an oil leak from rear crank seal, so went for the flame trap rather than pull gearbox etc off to save my already buggered back.

Is there a trick to getting this thing out? Its hidden down on the block, under the manifold and the spaghetti of wires and fuel lines. Unplugged a heap of stuff but still can't get fingers (or anything else) in enough to move it. Does it just pull out? I assume it has the same wound metal filter/trap thingy inside and will respond favourably to a good flushing, the same as the earlier (and much easier to service!) ones .

What in blazes possessed them to put it down there!
