Help! with wheel stud removal 700 92

My local tire store just mangled the threads on the rear of my '92 740 wagon. I bought the replacement stud. After removing the rotor do I just smack the stud or is there a better way? A little heat around it with a pencil torch? Quick response sure helps. Thanks Bob Walter
