Air Compressor - No Power 900 1993

Have 1993 940...63K .Absolutly the best car I've ever owned. Air Conditioning was working great then it just stopped. Husband says compressor is not getting any electrical. Fuses ok. Question is there a relay switch, or does the power come from switch in dash?? Is there a separate power line to compressor??? Have searched hi and low for manual. Out of print, so have no where to turn but you all!!
