Tach with a tick. 1800 1973

Hi folks,

I recently installed a Crane XR700 Fireball electronic ignition system in my 1973 1800 ES. Seemed to be running fine, enjoyed the thought of never having to fuss with points, even went to the point of carving a hole in the top of a spare distributor cap so I could "flash" the rotor with the timing light and ensure that it was firing at the mid-point of the post.

Now it seems to have developed a "tick" which appears as a slight drop on the tachometer. It seems to only occur below 2000RPM, is of very short duration, and only lets the needle drop about 200 RPM. There is no consistent pattern and there is no indication of a loss of power or burp in the engine sound or power when the "tick" occurs.

I did not rewire the tachometer (change the number of turns on the pick up in the tachometer as the instructions indicated might have to be done) as the tach seemed to be registering correctly.

Ideas? I want to keep the Electronic pickup but I am worried about the inaccuracy, the "Tick", and the potential to damage the tach.

Thanks for the help.....
