Questions about installing big tachometer in 242 200 1983

Last night I tried to install a big tach/small clock/small volt gauge (from eBay) in my 1983 242 DL. The small clock is plugged into the tach with the clock-to-tach harness from the kit. The voltmeter is not plugged in at all - looks like I need some additional wiring. The tach is not connected to the coil.

Questions:

1. How do I hook the tach to the coil? I read an archived BB post this morning that makes me think that a stray, heavy, gray wire is supposed to connect to the tach. I hadn't read that post when I took everything apart last night - I wasn't sure what to do with this wire last night so I plugged it where I *thought* it came from. The "OD OFF" light was on today (sometimes flickering) for the first time ever (kind of strange for an M46 car.)

2. Is there a special harness for the volt gauge? The kit instructions describe the necessary connections, but no additional harness was included.

3. The small clock is illuminated but not telling time. Is this because the tach is not plugged to the coil? Or is the clock broken?

Thanks for your time,

Chelsea White
