I have two questions in attempt to make my car operate a little better. This car (1982 244 GL) does not have the original engine so I'm unsure of the exact year, though I know that is is between a '76 and a '79 (fuel injected.)
The first is in regards to the overdrive. My overdrive is no longer engaging. During the weeks before it finally quit it was coming on sometimes and often delayed. I have determined that the gear switch and the solenoid are in working order, and that the wiring and the rocker switch are also not the problem. My next step is to check the OD filter and oil level. Any advice about doing this task, is it something that I should tackle at home?? Is there any other possible problems that could be causing the OD not to work.
My second question is about the wiring involved with the coil. Currently there is one 12 volt wire going into the resister and from there into the positive side of the coil. And from the negative side of the coil there are two wires running to the low tension system to the ECU. Does this sound correct?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am learning most of this as I go along. Thanks.
