Auto Trans Gear Shift Lever Plastic Case - Q's. 200 89

I need to replace the plastic case on that encloses the Auto Trans. Gear Shift Lever Selector. The thing that sits over the rug in front of the console. But my repair manual does not say how to do this.

Evidently you must remove the gear shift lever knob to get it to slide down over the shaft. But I see no screws or any way to take the knob off. Is this pried off some way? Concerned about breaking something. Anyone ever replace this part successfully?
