What Can be Done About That Air mass Meter 200 1986

Ive replaced three air mass meters in my 245 dl. When they go the car wont start, even though nothing mechanically is wrong. These things are $300 new and $150 used, but getting harder to find... My questions are:

does anyone rebuild/recondition these?

Is there anyway to bypass the air mass meter altogether? (preferred)

Thanks a lot these seem to be a weak link in anotherwise sweet car.
