Antenna woes fixed - thanks for inputs 900 1991

Hi fellas,

Some of you may well remember that sometime back I posted a question regarding my stereo setup whereby my antenna would remain up even when I switch to CD player module. The CD module is the factory fitted CD control module. I had same problem whenever playing cassette.

Well finally I managed to fixed the problem. I checked the wiring at the antenna motor first with a test light (noticed that my antenna is an aftermarket antenna). It turn out that the green/black wire had permanent current supply and the red wire had current only when I switch on the radio (making the antenna moving upwards) and the reverse if I switch off the radio.

Next I took out the radio with the wires still attached and tried to search with a test light which wire had current when I switch on the radio and I found the gree/gray is the one. I trace back deep inside and wella.... I found the trouble spot. This wire was connected to the red wire from the equalizer whilst the black wire was grounded. So if I turn on the radio, the equalizer gets the power supply through this green/gray wire. But at the same time there was also another green/gray wire which also connected with the red wire. When i pull off that wire teh antenna went down. Off course all these half-way conections are aftermarket job as the connections was only by twisting of wires and tapes were used.

So I took the green/gray with the current supply from the radio and connected it with red wire from equalizer ensuring that the equalizer will always get supply each time I turn on the radio and then slotted it into the socket hole for the antenna switch which I managed to find from a junkyard. The other green/gray is pushed into opposite socket for the antenna. I tested it out and if i press the antenna switch downwards, the antennna would retract and the opposite if i press upwards without affecting the equalizer or the CD player module.

So now I can go speed down the interstate highway while listening to CD without having to worry about my antenna getting bent after sometimes.

I thank you all for your ideas and suggestions.
