V-6 engine specs and General Inquires 200 76

Hi- I am about to buy another Volvo after having had my 79 242 GT totaled by some moron driver. This 76 is a 264 and is a nice condition car. The last owner had had some tranny problems and had replaced the Transmission about 3,000 miles before he had the unfortunate luck of having the OD go out on him so he stopped driving it. He said that he had hoped to fix it some time but he agreed with me that the time was good to sell it. I went to check the fluid levels today on the way to work and the coolant was not in the overflow so I put some in and then it proceeded to come out what looked like a freeze plug and then all ran out. The question is if the freeze plug had popped out one of these winters could there be any underlying problems? I am familiar with the american V-8's so is installing the freeze plug the same for this V-6. It is the plug on the right side of the engine between the ports on the exhaust manifold. Plus another one is about whats left of my 79 GT. Is that rear end a limited slip and would'nt that be good to team uo with the v-6?

Thanx-alot.
