I have been chasing a hunting idle problem forever. It's bad on start-up, though the injector seals seem tight and the IAC and throttle body are clean and the throttle sensor seems to click at the right moment. After the car is warm, the idle smooths somewhat, but not completely.
Today I noticed that after the engine (B23, LH 2.?) is warm, the hunting idle seems to smooth out when the oxygen sensor is disconnected. Is this a possible cause of the bad idle, or just my fevered imagination? I know the sensor doen't work till the engine is hot, so that wouldn't seem to be the problem at start-up. Maybe it compounds it.
I have no idea how old the sensor is -- at least four years and 20,000 miles. I should probably change it on general principal, but I have a lot of parts that meet that description.
Hungry for wisdom.
