I'm replacing my original M46 transmission with one out of an 80 240. There are slight differences in design, and I've taken care of all of them except the clutch release bearing. I'm replacing the clutch because it needs replacing, and the kit came with a new clutch release bearing. The bearing on the 80 transmission is a different shape, so is the release fork. I am unable to remove the fork and bearing from this older transmission. The newer fork was easy because it was held in by a wire fastener- it just popped out. This fork seems to be held differently. The bearing is also held differently in the 80 transmission. Again, in the newer transmission the bearing just popped off. SO, how do I remove the fork and bearing from the 80 transmission? Or, can I just exchange the bell housings... I've already explored this, but the fork gets in the way of one of the bolts- very fustrating. I'm also worried all the oil will come out if I remove the bell housing... will it?
Thanks,
Nathan
