low oil pressure in a 122 120-130 68

Upon changing the oil in a newly purchased 68 122S, I experienced intermittent oil light flashing, esp. at idle. It looks like someone had put in gear oil to stop the light. I first replaced the seals on the oil delivery tube; no luck. I then installed a new oil pump; still no luck. I have attached an oil pressure guage to the switch location: in generally hovers around 1 bar, but often drops below that at idle. At speed it rarely gets above 2 bar. If you know how difficult it is to get into the oil pan on these cars you will understand that I am at my wit's end. Any ideas?
