Hi,
Recently, I replaced my leaking camshaft seal and changed the timing belt.
this was an ordeal. I had hoped to replace all three seals, but getting the camshaft pulley bolt loose, just about killed me.
Now the car runs poorly at idle. I drove it 90 miles on the highway yesterday and it ran fine. Throttle open, runs great, but idles crappy. If I run the idle high, 1200, the idle doesn't spike as often. If I run the idle aroudn 900, then it spikes all the time.
when I replace the timing belt, I removed the CIS motor (idle control valve?) and blasted it with a can of carb cleaner. Should I buy a new one? Will a place like pick-n-pull have something like this?
I am thinking that perhaps the timing is off, which would easier to screw up when changing the timing belt than the throttle switch. Is my timing suppossed to be at 12 degrees? My old VW's timing was supposed to be advanced for emissions reasons, but I always set it at TDC for best performance. Is this the same for Volvos?
Thanks,
Larry
