How to rehang front passenger door? 700 86

The hinge spring broke on my '86 745 wagon. I bought a used one and put it on. It works -- the door no longer closes itself on my leg, hooray! -- but I can't adjust the door so it closes with the correct "thunk" sound. It closes and locks OK, it just doesn't sound right.

Maybe I'm just being silly, but is there official Volvo guidance on adjusting the doors?
