If you live in or near the SF Bay area or can get here easily here is something you can put on your calendar for 2002. Golden Gate Chapter of Volvo Club of America will hold their huge (120 cars last year) Davis car show and swap meet on Sunday April 28th . We pretty much take over Davis Central Park Pavilion. Davis is a little college town near Sacramento. It is a great place for a meet with a large covered area, trees, grass, a playground for kids, and the weather is very pleasant in Davis in April. More and more people are coming to this event every year. It is not to be missed. You don’t need to register for this, just show up.
The following day, Monday April 29, we will rent Thunderhill Raceway, about 60 miles north of Davis on Highway 5. We will do a high performance driving event at the track that will include instruction, track time and lunch. Thunderhill is a 1.7 mile road course. You can see more information about the track at www.thunderhill.com This is a safe, sane way to get some high speed driving experience on a closed course, and to see how those modifications you have made to your car really work. Your car doesn’t need to be modified or race prepared. You will need the normal highway safety equipment and a helmet. We divide the on-track run groups by performance potential, so that you run with cars similar to yours. You won’t be held up much by slower cars, nor will you be looking in your rearview mirror for some 400 HP 740 or tricked up 850R closing in fast.
The track day will cost $150 per driver. We are giving Volvo folks the first chance to register. If we are not fully sold out by the end of January we will open registration to some other clubs. Once we do that, we will sell out immediately, so if you want to go to the track I would suggest you act now. We need a $75 non-refundable deposit to hold your spot. If you change your mind and we can sell your spot, you can get your money back, or possibly credit toward another track day.
