All,
I've worked on 700/900 series volvos for 10 years now, and never heard anything like this. It is weird.
While driving along in my '94 945T, I start to get a hollow knocking or popcorn type sound. It is more noticable withthe sunroof open. Generally, it happens over 50mph, but there seems to be no real speed or engine speed correlation. I've tried to correlate the sound to anything on the interior of the car and I haven't been able.
The car has IPD sway bars, Poly U. radius rod bushings, and new (8k miles) bilsteins. The car has 113k miles with no appreciable front end clunks or bushing issues. (besides the RR, which I've replaced)
The closest sound I have ever heard was in my 780T when the CV joints started going bad. However, that sound only happened when cornering, and my 940T doesn't have an IRS. =\
Any thoughts are appreciated!
thanks,
simon
