In tank pump compatability 200 84

My '84 244GL is an early edition (5/84) where it comes to which in tank fuel pump it has. I thought I had read that the later pump was better.

I bought the later pump, because I thought I'd put this new pump in my '86 family daily driver and its used one in this car.

Isn't there some kind of modification I'll need to do to install the later in-tanl pump on an early '84?
