replacing the clutch 200 1984

can anyone give me some guidance on whether or not i should attmpt to replace the clutch myself on my wife's '84 245. (orginal with 140K miles)

is the job something do-able for someone with a bit of mechanical experience (i helped a friend who helped me replace the clutch on my '76 BMW2002 ten years ago & have managed to keep my 2 bricks running & passing inspections for the past several years)

or

is it one of those jobs that it would cause more frustration/trouble than it is worth & i should buck-up and pay a shop to do it?

what would be a reasonable ball park cost for having a shop do it?

thanks
