Leaking exhaust manifold gasket 700 1989

My '89 740 Turbo has a leak in the #1 exhaust port gasket. I am dreading an ordeal of broken studs, etc. How long can I let it go? My car has around 125,000 miles on it. I have Massachusetts inspection in September, so I suppose that's the outer limit.
