Can I replace an '83 Chrysler distributor with an '84 Bosch? 200 1983

Turns out that a 1983 (Chrysler) distributor is hard to find and expensive. I'm wondering if a Bosch distributor from a 1984 or newer car might fit? How hard would it be to replace the wiring that goes to the distributor to make it fit? It is painful to pay $400+ (dealer price) for a distributor for a $500 car...

I read in a FAQ somewhere that the Chrysler distributors aren't very good, that's one reason I'm interested in a Bosch, if they hold up better I might be happier with one if I have to get one used.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can offer.
