I suspect my blower motor has finally begun its downward spiral, its giving me the typical symptoms that others have given me in the past prior to dying altogether, but this one in particular has thrown me a twist.

The blower motor works only when set on speed 5, will not turn at all on 1 thru 4. But when I have it on 5 it sounds off with the typical screams, howls, and whistles. That's why I suspect that its on the way out and replacement is in order.

However, I seem to recall reading somewhere that the selector will sometimes fail. Since I cannot get the blower motor to engage from 1 to 4, only on 5, I can't help but wonder if my control unit (the 3 knob dash unit) might be faulty as well.

Tell me what you think. Replacing the blower motor is a tedious but simple job that I will gladly undertake versus bearing the expense of a new control unit.
