Smoking-stuck rings? 200 83

I am in the process of resurrecting an old wagon--solved the electrical mess and it now runs!! However, it appears to run rich with a high idle--my guess is a nasty throttle body. I will attack that next. My question , however, has to do with the smoke screen that it produces while under load. I'm guessing that the rings are either shot or not sealing well due to the fact that the car sat unused for five years. Any thoughts? Any ideas as to how one might loosen them up a bit? A cup of kerosene in the crankcase? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Matt
