Air Conditioner Expansion Valve 200 1985

The expansion valve for the A.C. is located under the passenger side kick panel, but I found two brass nuts in the same area. One (nearest the door) is about 21-22mm and the other one (to its left) is about 14mm. Which is the expansion valve and what does the other one control? Many thanks for your help.
