testing AC pump 900 94

I've got an AC pump (new, Sanden SD508) that's been apart (to fit a different head with the right connectors) and needed two of the bolts helicoiled. Would it be possible to test for gas-tightness by capping off the discharge side and using my air compressor to put 40 or 50 psi on the suction side, or would that ruin the pump (or not test what I think I would be testing)? Same for vacuum test, just cap off the suction and put a mightyvac or so on the discharge?
