1970 145S general info wanted. 140-160 1970

Hello all,

Friends dad has offered me a 145S wagon for free if I excavate it from his garage and tow it off. Was running when parked back in '91 and has been non-oped through the DMV since. He was using it as a storage shed for a few of his other cars. I plan on using it as a daily driver and think it'll make a great utility vehicle. I've never owned a Volvo before and I'm quite curious about them.

So I'm trying to figure out how this car was equipped. So far all I know is it is a 4 cyl. with an automatic. The carb is a progressive 2 bbl Weber and he has a dual sidedraught Weber setup for it stashed somewhere inside the car. I also found an IPD instruction sheet for coil springs when I was cleaning out the interior, so I am assuming it is coil sprung at all 4 corners. I reached through one of the slots on the rear wheels and felt a caliper, so I also know it is 4 wheel disc.

He took off the dual Webers soon after he got them because he always broke U-Joints with them on. Is there a later model driveshaft and yoke that would be stronger?

What bolt pattern are the wheels?

What gear ratio is the axle likely to have?

Is it a removeable cover design (i.e. GM 10-bolt) or a removeable carrier design (i.e. Ford 9 inch, Mopar 8 3/4)?

Is there a chance it'll have a limited slip differential? if not, any late model donors that'll have it to look for at junkyards?

What is the engine swap potential with Volvos? I'm not talking about swapping in a small-block Chevy here, but was wondering if late model fuel-injected or turbo motors from other Volvos are an easy swap.

I'm used to dealing with old Mopars, and have owned them all my life. I know them inside and out, and have become an accomplished wrecking yard scrounge over the years. This will be the only Non-Mopar I've ever owned, but the more I learn about these cars, the more they grow on me. Any info on it is appreciated.

Take it easy,

Cameron
