Speedo Cable&radio 200 1979

I am trying to remove the instrument cluster so I can change out the speedometer, the odometer quit and I want to put a salvage speedo in. I can reach the back of the speedo but I cannot get the speedo fitting to unscrew. It feels like there might be a collar on it to prevent it from loosening. Does anyone know what the trick is to get the bugger loose? If push comes to shove I can go the pick-a-part and cut one loose to see how to get mine out. Also what are the chances of a stock '78 Volvo am/fm radio still working or being repairable? (My friendly local pick-a-part has one for $10) If not what is a good source for a replacement radio?

Thanks
