simple question, I've done it before. I'm getting some distilled water. So far NO LEAKs so I must've done something right after a preliminary start up but I don't have the radiator compleatly filled so I don't know if it's ready for a real test. . Still it wasn't easy as it looked. I am HOPEING I didn't crossthread anything. several screws were hard to get past gasket and had to use wood pry stick to get waterpump aligned..... up into new seal at top of water pump.
NO noise on front end. If the Three Mechanics that worked on this thing in the last 3 monthes had changed the water pump when I complained about it causing the fan to rub the timing chain cover, then my engine would've been in better shape. They all said it looked fine... even one said Older Volvo's timing chain covers tend to swell and get carved up by fan hub on front of water pump.
I think a valve job as a result maybe sooner than later. some knocking in upper engine is noticeable ..... ('course without the fan hub no longer rubbing maybe I'm hearing the real engine finally...) I am afraid the engine suffered a bit in the few miles while the waterpump was leaking fluid... even though I never got into the deep red of gauge.... this rig's been getting lower gas mileage (21 mpg from 24 mpg earlier and has a little less pep even after changing plugs... but maybe after driving the "new" 93 240 I am seeing my older rig in new eyes...?)
and those little 10 mm wrench heads of nuts got a little trying. Didn't lose any this time though.....
I dont't begrudge the mechanics their money if this is just an easy sample of their work.... ('course I did it on a rainy day in a mudpuddle@!)
distilled water, more coolant, gradual filling of reservoir, Does that keep air pockets out????
also coolant was spilled and leaked onto the Alternator, Does that mean it's days are numbered????? (A big expense on 240s I am told!!)
