Adding AC to my 1980 242GT

Hello all: What are the best years to salvage ac parts from 240s to add into my 1980 242GT? My car never had ac. Which are the best compressors? Are there specific parts that I should buy new? Should I use the new, less bad for the enviornment regrigerant, or the old stuff?
