Turbo 200 1984

I have a 1984 240 GLT Turbo,it doesn't want to idle smooth. It doesn't smoke. I was wondering what I should check first. This is going to be my project car so it's a learning experience kinda as I go along. I also have a 1986 240 DL in perfect condition. I really don't have to do anything to it but reg. maint. Any advice would be appreciated. I have a mechanic I'll be worrying to death, just thought I would check here first. Thanks Karen
