capacity of AW-72 Trans 700 1990

This may be a silly question.....but here goes anyway. I drained the trans fluid from my 1990 740GLE, auto trans. Cleaned the screen replaced the gasket and then checked my owners manual for capacity specifications and read 7.9 US quarts. I currently have six quarts in the tranny and have driven it to temp (20 min) through a range of gears and the fluid is way over the mark (way over.... I'd say 2 inches). Any advice? Before I drain some fluid I thought I'd ask you guyz for some hints?? Maybe some fluid is still trapped in the radiator cooling lines???

Mark
