Hi all,
Now I have to get the wagon. At the junkyard I got a pristine grille for it and the one trim piece it is missing, off the pass. side front door. There were 3 140s there, and a TON of 240s. No FI 140s.
Noticed something else cool, too. While digging through a 70 142 I noticed it was a manual transmission car, complete with everything except the shift knob. What transmission is it likely to be? I put it through the gates a few times. 5 speed, but I'm not sure what position is reverse.
So I ran back to the wagon I got the trim off of (automatic) and pulled back the upholstrey. Looks like there's a block-off plate of sorts in the wagon's tunnel. I'm guessing the manual can just go right in. The coupe even has a drive shaft in it still.
So are they the same wheel base? Are the slush-box automatic and gearbox manual different lengths? if not I'll have a driveline shop use the ends and fabricate a driveshaft for me. Will the manual car have a different axle ratio than the automatic? What cars are likely to have swappable axles with lower axle ratios? Are ring & pinions and LSDs in these cars clearly marked with a tag bolted to the cover, as they are on most Mopars, or do I have to do the "Turn & Count" method?
As for the MG parts, they're not included in the car. They're off an MG TC that he's restoring, and the resto of the MG is one of the reasons he's getting rid of the Volvo. Needs the garage space.
Take it easy,
Cameron
