Cleaning Instrument Faceplates 1800 1973

Follks,

I would like to clean the faceplates of all my instruments as they are dirty/dusty. It even appears that a bug has been wandering around inside one of them.

Is this just a matter of disassembling the instruments with great care or is this effort ill-advised due to their construction?
