Crank belt pulley removal? 700 1989

How is the timing belt pulley on the crankshaft removed? Is the little key like thing actually a key? Do I remove it to get the toothy pulley off. If so, how is the key removed? Need to get behind it to R&R the seal, right?

The two manuals(!?) I have, Haynes and Chilton's, completely ignore the subject, and the FAQ section doesn't mention it either. I gotta ask, is it so simple that I'm missing the obvious?
