Sorry I have to ask you all again about this same problem but I need a little more insight. Here's the deal: my rear end was makin a little bit of noise so I talked to my mechanic. Without looking under the car but only driving it he thought it could be the pinion bearing. I finally got around to gettin under the car and saw oil stains around the differential cover and found little gear oil in there. I used one of those selant type gasket things and filled the differential back up. That didn't work. Seeing that I wanted more performance anyway I was thinking this would be a good time to get that 3.93 rear end out of a GLE auto. My question is how the heck do I get one of these from the salvage yard without power tools. All those bolts seem too well encrusted to get off using regular 18 mm wrenches. My other question is am I better off just getting mine fixed? I don't like to spend money on stupid things like this, I'd rather spend it on a nice exhaust or good snow tires or something. What is really causing all that noise? Does it mean anything that the gear oil is only coming out from around the diff cover? How much would whatever this is cost to fix? Thanks alot and if anyone out there has time to help a 17 year old with this and many other Volvo projects I am so willing to learn and I would love you forever. Thanks again.
