My "new" 86 wagon, 149 miles, failed the emissions test badly. HC idle 1491, limit 220. CO idle 11.1, limit 1.2. co2 6.8094. At higher rpm (should be 2500 rpm, but I have no tach so we just ran it up)HC781, co 11.01, and co2 7.0415 - no limits.
It runs great except the idle is very high, and it doesn't come down all the way sometimes (it's a stick). I had the plugs out recently and they looked cleaner than I have ever seen, but the gap was too wide - I closed them to .3. And lately, but not during the E. test, the engine dies while driving, but I think it is some sort of electrical problem.
Any help on where to start looking for problems is appreciated!
Mike in WI,
where my neighbors cows release more unburned gas every year than my old Volvo(at least I think so, these emission numbers are so high, but they doen't tell you what high really means)
