Just replaced the whole exhaust system, including the catalytic converter and the head pipe. My mechanic did the head pipe a couple of weeks ago; I did the rest of it this weekend.
Seemed pretty noisy, even with everything new. Got under the car, with engine running, to identify the noise source.
There is a hole near the end of the exhaust head pipe, just a few inches from the Cat. It's threaded, like it's set up to have something screwed into it. Except there's nothing actually screwed into mine. Seemed like a bunch of noise was coming from that hole - not surprising, given that that exhaust was bypassing the mufflers.
Is there supposed to be something in that hole? Or is it supposed to be open like that?
