Flashing W, S, E Indicator Lamps 900 95

I have a problem with the Winter Sport and Economy Indicator lamps flashing on and off after the car encounters periods of high humidity. The transmission also seems to operate in the WInter mode while this is happening. I can drive the car a few miles, shut it off, let it sit a few minutes and then the car will operate normally.

I live in Tucson and have absolutely no need for the WInter driving mode. Is there any way to totally disconnect the sensor that controls this or is there any way to fix this problem without paying more than the car is worth for the fix?
