Connection between brakes and overdrive 700 91

91, 740 sedan

AW71 trans.

My Mom claims that when she hits the brakes her car is shifting out of overdrive and into third gear (arrow light on). Seems strange to me, what is the brakes-trans connection?

I recently checked out the relay (took it apart); Examined and cleaned the button in the shift knob; Looked for frays in the wiring; Checked #12 fuse. Eveything is okay. Voltage going in and out of relay. But someone said it is impossible to test the relay and the presence of voltage means nothing.
