Damaged Fuel Line 200 80

While removing the fuel filter I managed to break the fuel line (the plastic line that fits in the rubber hose) where it attaches to the filter (not the hardline running to the tank). It appears that I have enough fuel line left to reattach to the fuel filter fitting but I don't know if it is possible to shove the fitting back inside the plastic tube (I haven't attempted it yet since I had to go on a business trip). It looks like the tube is almost shrink wrapped on the fitting (very very tight). Do I have to buy the tube already attached to the fitting or can I force the fitting into the tube. Any advice would be appreciated.
