I have a 1984 244 GL and can not get a spark for the life of me. I had this same problem a year ago and I had the fuel pumps replaced from a shop and then it ran fine for about 6 months. Since it has been in storage and would like to get it back on the road. I can wire the fuel pumps so that it gets power to get fuel up to the motor but still I will not get any spark.

I took the liberty of re-wiring all of the wires that go to the ignition control unit and the results are that I have power to the other side of the coil now but still no spark????????

I had the coil tested today I was told that the coil is ok. But they

said they didn't think that that coil was for a volvo. Does a volvo have a

specal coil? I tried to test the coil from the wire that goes from the coil

to the distributor cap by putting the wire close to a ground. But still no

spark. I went to test the gray wire from the coil the ICU (ignition control unit) and if I turn the key to the on position I get power to it. It is hard to tell if the power is getting the on-off motion when the key is turned on that you talked about with the tester that I am using. The light in this tester is proably too big and it is probably going on-off so fast that the tester cannot pick it up. Whenever I put the tester just in the wire that goes to the ICU, it starts the fuel pump for just one second and shuts it off. It's just that wire and it happens only when I pull out the tester from the wire. Any thoughts why it would do that? Shouldn't that pump come on as soon as I turn over the motor?
