Is a strut tower brace useful for a NA car? 700

I have seen several posts recommending a strut tower to strut tower brace and a recent one recommending a strut tower to firewall brace. Are Volvos really that flexible that these braces make a significant difference for a stock Volvo, especially the non-turbo or non-souped up varieties? I had assumed that they ARE useful if you stiffen up the suspension, add lots of power, go to performance tires, etc. and then fling the car around. I don't doubt the folks who claim they work but I wonder if their older cars were suffering from weakened chassis or something. If it is a generic characteristic, then maybe we should find another name besides 'brick'.
