inner tie rod ends 200 1989

I recently replaced two quite worn tie rod ends on my girlfriend's '89 240. The right one was so bad that you could move the wheel back and forth about 1/4 to 1/2 inch! So anyways, we take it to get it aligned, and the mechanic tells us that the right INNER tie rod end has play and must be replaced, which I didn't notice I guess. His estimate for the end and replacement was $114 canadian, about $75 US, with 52 dollars for the part. We called Volvo and they wanted 150 dollars canadian just for one inner tie rod end. So I am quite confused as to why there is such a discrepency in part prices. Also, is this a job that isn't too demanding, or should I just let the mechanic do it?
